He is a Veteran and entitled to benefits. My dad delivered troops and cargo as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He died without recognition in 1998 and other than a 1988 form letter, was denied the GI bill or other benefits GI's received - even those stationed stateside. I am writing a book based on his letters. The U.S. congress will wait until they are all dead before compensating them. Canada did the admiral thing and compensated their Merchant Seamen. My Granddad was Abraham Rivel Davis he fought as a merchant marine in WWII. My grand dad passed on in 1995. He was very proud of serving with you and for our country. He said clearly "in my life I love My God, My Family and My Country" and I was proud to serve all 3. Unfortunately he never received recognition in life for what he did.
